The Aroona Alliance in Perth (Australia): a new agreement serving one and a half million residents

Degrémont, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT subsidiary, and its partner Transfield Services, have been selected by Water Corporation, to operate and maintain the water production and wastewater treatment assets of the city of Perth, the 4th largest city in Australia.


The contract is to operate and maintain, in partnership with Water Corporation and Transfield Services, 19 water treatment plants, 14 wastewater treatment plants and 2 advanced water recycling plants as well as 13 dams, 190 drillings and 520 km of transport network. It will start in July 2012, for a period of 10 years, with a possible further extension of 5 years. The contract is valued at 294 million Euros ($378 million AUD) over the initial term.

 

The objectives of the Aroona Alliance

The Cottesloe Beach in PerthDegrémont, Transfield Services and Water Corporation will form an integrated alliance which will be named Aroona. The objectives of this Alliance include a strong focus on operational performance and an improvement to the services delivered to the 1.5 million inhabitants of Perth. It will focus on delivering excellent quality water, as well as protecting water as a precious resource for Western Australia’s future generations.

This new contract confirms SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT leadership in the Australian water market. The selection of Degrémont also confirms the continued confidence of Water Corporation in Degrémont’s capabilities, following the construction and continued successful operation of the Perth desalination plant.
